Herbert-ABS Software Solutions, LLC, announces the appointment of a seasoned executive, Michael Newton, as President. Michael Newton succeeds Hendrik Bruhns, who will move into the new position of Executive Vice President at Herbert Engineering Corp. and continue to serve Herbert-ABS as a director.

Michael Newton’s role as President follows a 20-year career with the software division within the Herbert Engineering family of companies. After graduating from Webb Institute in 1999, with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, he joined the CargoMax™ group, quickly taking on full development responsibilities. In 2006, Mr. Newton was promoted to Vice President at Herbert Software Solutions Inc. (HSSI).

Serving as Vice President and Head of Development for the past 15 years, as well as Product Manager for both CargoMax™ and LMP, Mr. Newton has managed large fleet projects within the commercial and government sectors. Mr. Newton has also provided extensive experience in high-level support and training to world-wide users and has overseen the fleet-wide adoption by numerous Oil Production and Drilling companies of the offshore-based, weight-management tool, LMP, responsible for its growth and in it becoming the preeminent offshore loading software in the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to guiding the development and growth of CargoMax™ and LMP, Mr. Newton’s oversight expands across all Herbert-ABS software suites, including the release of HECSTAB, a new package that will be the basis of Herbert-ABS’ offerings well into the future and currently adopted by industry leading shipyards and offshore engineering firms.

Mr. Newton will continue to build upon his operational, software engineering, and product management experience to push Herbert-ABS’ products to the next level, modernizing its software capabilities.  This includes building upon HECSTAB’s version 9 platform to continue to provide clients with an enhanced level of service and support through Herbert-ABS’ global sales and service network, and also cultivating a wide-ranging user-driven community.

Mr. Newton is honored to step into the role before him, saying “I am delighted for this opportunity to lead an amazing team of engineers at Herbert-ABS and I look forward to expanding, enhancing, and modernizing our offerings. With great pleasure, I will continue to provide our clients with scalable, intuitive software alongside excellent customer service.  I see many exciting opportunities to expand our capabilities and offerings in the coming years, due to regulatory and environmental changes.”

“As the product manager of our CargoMax™ and LMP-Offshore loading computer suites, Michael Newton’s strengths for listening to our customer’s feedback to implement solutions that meet their needs and initiatives is what enhanced the growth of Herbert-ABS’ software suite. As President, Michael will continue to leverage the company’s many opportunities for growth, maintaining Herbert-ABS’ global position as a leader in onboard and offshore software programs and ship design—focused on innovation, safety, and performance,” said Hendrik Bruhns, former President of Herbert-ABS.
